How old is this candlestick holder?

    It looks like the ones I have seen from the mid-1800's, but the grinding marks on the finger loop is sorta unusual.

    Agree mid 1800's. Pretty common push up style candlestick. There are a few examples on fee bay. Search Antique brass push up candlestick (not sure if that's the real technical term for the style)
    Not very valuable unfortunately.

    Looks like the push up knob is missing?
    Such a pity the condition is so poor. I agree that it holds no value but it would still make an interesting display piece if you like to decorate with antiques.

    I'd clean the gunk off and put it out at Christmas with a red candle in it.

    Modern reproduction from India is what I think. Those grind marks give it away. You see that a lot on the Indian repro stuff
