How old is this duck? it is really light

    Not porous enough for balsa, and lacks the streaks usually showing in balsa. Looks a lot like yellow cedar; one characteristic of yellow cedar is that the grain structure is often nearly invisible; yellow cedar shows less grain than sugar pine and most other woods. Yellow cedar is light, but heavier than red cedar, and a bit heavier than sugar pine.

    It reminds me of the 10's of thousands of lathe carved ducks, geese, swans etc. that were turned out in Quebec in the 1980's-90's, geared to the hobby folk art painters.

    That would be a reasonable possibility; hard to tell in the photos. But a close examination, especially around the top of the feet (a hard-to-carve area), might reveal to KingJ whether there is evidence of manual carving, or evidence of the precision common in machine-carved items.
    I'd think 80's to 90's would be a reasonable guess at the age though, and very likely sold as something that a hobbyist might paint themselves, rather than an unfinished item, or intentionally left unpainted.
