Awhile ago I posted a unique stickpin that was missing the pearl. It is a unique shape and is proving to be quite hard to find anything that comes close to fitting. Well my local jeweler has this pearl on hand and to be honest I think it looks okay... I'm sure it will look better once it is set inside. But still I wanted your guys opinion before I give the go ahead and have it drilled and glued into place.

They're called babies teeth pearls. It's what I pictured there. I know from experience finding the right pearl for a specific place in an existing piece is not easy.

Spartcom has not been shocked at the price, so perhaps from some other freshwater source than the Mississippi. I see the pearl as upside down in its orientation for the pin; that way round it looks less canine.

Tennessee River pearls can be even pricier, so I suspect it was another source too.

The jewler is a friend of mine and the pearl is free. I just have to pay for the labor of drilling and setting it. After hearing what you all are saying about the pearl I hate to have to drill and glue it!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

If you have that done, come back and show us the result!

Wow, I had no idea the pearl is worth that much! But I can see why, it so unique. Does the pearl have to be drilled? I would think that gluing would be enought to hold it in there. Also, the stick pin doesn't appear to be pointy on the end. How will it be worn?

In better pieces, using a post as well as some glue is the standard way to secure pearls that are not prong set or strung on wire. As I recall, this already has the post.

You are seeing the stickpin's pointy tip stuck into something; end is out of sight, making it look blunt.

Of course! Not being a joolie, I am prone to making obvious mistakes. Thank you, Bronwen!
