I am hoping this is a Hubley, but sadly I am having my doubts. My doubts are that there does not seem to be a screw visible, however it may be painted over. Not sure if that is a make or break on ID. It is rather large and weights about 8-10 pounds, it is cast iron. It is a left facing dog also. Another concern is that this seems hand painted where-as I heard true Hubley's were air brushed. Can anyone ID this for certain as a Hubley or a fake? Sorry these are links to the google gallery image. It seems the clarity is much better.

His seams look tight which is a good sign, but I'm not an expert on these. There should be a screw on the side or two screws, one in the neck and one on the flank.

I did not look at your pics but this tells me that it is likely a reproduction. Many were made from casts of the original with the screw covered over to mold better. They look like they have putty over the screw but it is actually molded as part of the whole.

Thanks for the pics. Can't tell if the screw is covered over in the mold or if it is just painted over. Otherwise, this doesn't look like an obvious fake. A better pic of the screw might be in order or maybe you should just try and take it apart if it looks like a real screw.

I'm not sure what breed of dog this is suppose to be. At first I thought Boston terrier, but now not so sure. If a Boston Terrier, it isn't the Boston terrier I associate with Hubley. Their Boston terrier's head was turned to the right. The head on this dog is turned to left. According to the following site, their BT had 2 screws.

"Hubley's doorstop [Boston Terrier] is a 2 piece doorstop held together with 2 screws. Both going thru one half and threading into the other half.
The screw heads are filled and painted over."

The following site lists/pictures the Hubley dogs down the left side of the page. I didn't see any that looked like this dog. Do check out the Boston Terrier click on the letters "F" (front), "B" (back) or "I" for information & description. The AD1 and AD2 are old advertisements for the dogs. The number of their BT is #331. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be on the dog. I do know many of their doorstops have their number on them, but some don't. I do not have a Hubley book.

Do note National Foundry bought out most of Hubley molds c1940. The following page on the same website has dogs made by other foundries. It has the Boston Terrier made by National. It says it uses a bolt rather than a screw to hold the 2 pieces together.

"A bolt holds together this 2-piece doorstop.
One of the very few doorstops to use a bolt and not a screw."

Here is a left facing Boston Terrier that the seller says,
"Rare Antique Left Facing Hubley Cast Iron Boston Terrier Dog Doorstop 10'"

Now you can't prove it by me if Hubley made them facing both directions and the seller doesn't say how he knows. I do see a flat head screw in the front side of him.

Edit: The following page Q&A page says the following about Hubley left facing BTs:

"The majority of Boston Terrier Bulldog doorstops looked or faced right if you're standing behind them, but a select few, probably less than 10%, were produced facing left. Those also have the screw or screws in the left side of the body. Left facing Boston Terrier Doorstops are the rarest of their breed and command prices often 50 to 100% higher than their right-facing counterparts."

Thanks for the responses. I examined it much closer and see no signs that there is a screw holding this together. Although it also doesn't look welded together either. I agree all the boston terrier Hubley I find do not look like this one. I read that a real Hubley is air brushed and will typically show over run of spray, this seems hand-painted. I am leaning towards mine not being a Hubley honestly. I will look into National Foundry as a possible maker.
