So there I was, checking out at the thrift when I saw this in a return pile and HAD to have it ! Its 44 inches long,20 high, and the colors blew me away. Theres a signature in the corner, but its illegible, but it does have the name "Sperber" scrawled on the back, wich I think might be the signature as well. Very 1960's I think. Any input is always appreciated."Made in sweden" is stamped on the frame.

Its weird, but you can see it better than you can photograph it.I can see a 'ber" but maybe thats just wishful on my part.I took dozens of pics trying to capture it,hopefully this one is better..Ugh ! Its impossible! Ill try outside tommorow.

Maybe take a photo of the "Made in Sweden" stamp, too. Sometimes the way the font looks is a clue to age, although guessing 2nd half of 20th century on this.

Your sure this is 60s? looks like a bit like the works of Jim Sperber. But he was born in the 60s in the US. He did paint on these sizes of canvas in abstract.

forget to identify it by signature, its unreadable.
Any marks or sizes on the stretcher?

There was a brief period during the 1970s when burlap canvas was en vogue, although likely it was a resurgence of popularity. ;)

I really like it too. :cat:

American framer/supplier and American measurements so most likely American artist. Seems also to have a stock or gallery number so thats always a good sign.

The back of a painting can tell you sometimes so much more than the front.

Art suppliers/framers have all kinds of thing on stocks from all around the world. If im correct the made in Sweden stamp is on the frame and not on the stretcher? Maybe it was bought by a Swedish person and he had it framed in Sweden. The stretcher is more important than the frame because it will most of the time stay with the painting when framed or frames are switched. There are many theories.

You can also see the different aging signs on the wood between the frame and the stretcher. Makes me believe that the work and stretcher are older than the frame itself.

Anyway its a good find. Let us know what the outcome is when you receive a reply on your mail.
