    Hello again,
I keep finding peices of sterling that I THINK are more than just silver. I do not wish to scrap these items until[and maybe not even then] I am sure they are common peices of silver, so I ask here first.
Anyway, I found this spoon. I am hoping someone here can ID the marks long before I can?
It, to me anyway, looks to be a nice peice? I would like to try to sell it before I scrap is for the silver. Please help me to ID it and tell me if it is just another hunk of silver or might it be worth more to someone as the peice that it is?
    Thanks again for any help,
    Karl.

P.S., the pearl is scuffed on the one side, IF it is a peice that should be preserved, is there any way to polish up the pearl? DSCN6668.JPG DSCN6669.JPG

I'd think the EP NS would indicate plated (wait for other input) but not sure what the center initial if all about. Does is say sterling on the collar?

    Hi Barn owl,
Close, but EPNS stands for electro plated nickel silver not nickel ON silver. It is a very common mistake.

Electro-plated nickel-silver. Nickel-silver is a cheap alloy made from nickel, copper and...something else...Zinc, I believe. No actual silver to be found.

MOP (Mother of Pearl) handle, sterling bolster(?might be wrong word - where the arrow is), electroplated nickle silver shank and bowl.
Unusual to see the bowl stamped with a pattern.

Time period late 1800s early 1900s.
Does this look at all like the spoon has been repaired or reattached to the handle?

If not, and it looks original, I would have this priced $20-30 in my CA store. Not a big seller, would sit for a while before selling. They used to command higher prices, but like everything else have dropped in price.

Mineral oil might help the handle. Wait for other opinions, before trying.

    Think you mean the ferrule.

If this is the only part that is sterling, would think the spoon as an antique/collectible worth more than the scrap value.

Collar here, rather than ferrule. Late 19th into the 1930s English silver plate jam spoon, silver collar, MOP handle. I've got lots with patterned bowls, usually pick them up for a couple of quid or less.

Yes, I realized later that there are a lot of decorated bowls. But not this simple a design. Usually they are more scrolly.

Actually, this car is possibly one of a kind. It was in a barn for 30 years. If it wasn't, it would probably be 2 or 3 Toyodas by now? Picture 857.jpg It is an all original 1960 Plymouth Suburban that get over 20 MPG. I am towing my boat 6 hrs from Valley Forge, Pa. to Canada next weekend.

Thanks for the info on the spoon. Fortunately, it is a small part of a silver lot I just purchased.

    Thanks again,
    Karl.

One other thing I noticed. Do they make silverware for left or right hands? I thought the peice was twicted but it is made to be. If my pict. shows it well enough? DSCN6685.JPG

The assumption was right handed hence the design. Left handed children were punished.
