I'm thinking about buying a 20" 9ct gold chain from the UK. I haven't decided yet, I'm thinking about Figaro style chain and I'm also, thinking about the funds. I give the boss a good portion of my check. Happy wife, happy life! :D You members who have had or currently have a 9ct gold chain and a 14k gold chain, can you tell the difference? Is buying 14k better because of the retail factor? You ppl who have one or the other, what is your view point? If I'm asking a question here that has already been hashed out, please share the link with me. I gotta get over to the retirement office as it's getting close for me. Any comments? usa.gif Much appreciate any and all! tmoney.gif

9c is duller looking in general. The 14K will wear more easily - links become stretched with wear.

Is this for wear with another gold item, such as a pendant? Or by itself? Matching the look of the gold can be a consideration when acquiring a chain to suspend something else.

    Hi,
9ct is not considered gold in Europe. I used to buy 9 ct stuff for cheap. When I had a pile of it I would sell it to the smelters. here in the USA 10ct is the least you can buy anything less is more like gold filled. JMHO

I bought a beautiful 14k opal pendant one time and went cheap on a 10k chain for it. I was endlessly polishing a black residue of that chain (and my neck) and it never looked right with the pendant.

I've seen dodgy 14K chains wearing down just as much. If it's well made and you like the bling effect, then go for it. 18K or higher is always a better investment, I've heard, and in Asian and South American and many European countries, they consider anything less than 14K, junk.

I wear a vintage 1962 puzzle ring in 9 ct gold....for the look, but wore an 18k snake chain for 37 years.
    Stick with the 14k......

Any of you guys that don`t want 9ct or think its junk just send it my way.
I`m just in the process of doing a house clearance which will take me all week.
I`ve already found this pile of 9ct worth around £1000 and I haven`t even scratched the surface yet.
There is silver too but I have not sorted any of it yet.
Oh and cash as well and I`m being paid to empty the place

Since I live in Europe, I don't consider anything less than 14k as gold either.:pompous::rolleyes: I will buy 9 or 10k to sell outside the Netherlands (Dutch won't buy it, it's not gold..), but not to wear it, or keep as investment for my old age.

Me too, dysfunctional families with to much money.

I asked these latest ones if I could have my dog in the house as it was such a big long job.
I don`t like leaving her outside in the car or at home for to long.
They said sure, what breed is it, I said a retired drugs K9,
    They nearly crapped.:D

I`ve not found any yet

    Hi,
The only weird place I found jewelry was a 2 caret diamond ring in the hem on a curtain. To this day I always feel the hems of drapes. People have looked at me and rolled their eyes. If they only knew. The weird place I found money was in an old coal furnace, except in the back of picture frames.
