Featured I have a challenge

had this painting for twenty plus years only ever found it on artistsignatures but was under illegible and it would not tell me artist. I think it is Wolf but thats all I got.

 

Wolf seems like a reasonable reading. Hamlet making his quietus with a bare bodkin?

 

like to find out more about the artist particularly when was painted.

 

I'd guess mid 20th, 1950s to 1970s or thereabouts based on the style. Can we see the back?

 

The stretchers look to be pretty old as I recall will take down and take more pics. I could be mistaken been a while since been down.

 

1950s. Can't get more 1950s than that. Palladian pediment, cypress trees... A rather long-in-the-tooth Romeo, I'd think. He even appears to be holding a sheathed dagger.

Yes to all but I'm still in the same spot I have been for so long. Is the website artistsignatures legitimate since they have it on their site do you think they know about artist? Don't want to join something and still not know.

Why did I just look at that and automatically thought of the British TV show "The Prisoner" ? The Cypress trees? The Statue? The Pink Building? The Square? Funny how the mind works....... "Unlike me, many of you have accepted the situation of your imprisonment, and will die here like rotten cabbages." It was a great show , though i did not like the way Patrick McGoohan ended it ......... sort of brings to mind our COVID existence ....
