Featured I have this great hanging kerosene lamp.....

    At least I think it's a kerosene lamp. It has the same kind of tank as modern kerosene heaters.

    It's about 5 ft tall and 4 ft wide. All brass and different than anything I've seen before.

    Any info I can get on this would be greatly appreciated.

    It is an interesting piece. Can you pls get a couple of close up pics of the burners/valves?

    The centers were removed at some point to wire it.

    I’m a bit puzzled about that. Yes it’s a lamp but did it run on paraffin (kerosene). Usually a wick sits in a reservoir of oil below the burner but this seems to be upside down? It seems to have gas taps too unless the are for adjusting the height of the wick. I can’t work out why it wouldn’t just leak oil everywhere in a very dangerous way (assuming the cylinder above is a reservoir).

    There are carbide lamps that had a system to drip water onto calcium carbide. This gave off acetylene gas that could be burnt to produce light.

    Fascinating. So it’s for whale oil not paraffin.
