I know very little about pearls, Junk or Treasure

    I really know very little about pearls, know about the gritty feeling, and can tell if they are freshwater, and that is about it, Found these last week lurking in a purse, I think they are dyed,and was about to throw them in the GS pile, when I realized the string is knotted, also they are not exactly matched, some are slightly irregular, and what is that?seam on some of them,again thanks for any input pearls.jpg pearlsn (2).jpg pearlsn (2).jpg pearlsuse.jpg pearlsn.jpg perls.jpg

    That is a BIG rope of dyed Chinese freshwater pearls. Sometimes they're called baroque, although these are closer to potato. :) They're not junk.

    lol Komokwa,I find all kind of items squirreled away, Guess I was a pack/rat /hoarder in my younger days, , thank you all will see what I can do with these ,

    The term for pearls with the lines that are like seams is cerclé.

    Because they are that shape, but cerclé is still an applicable term.

    I agree, when they have lines they are cerclé.
    Potato is the name for the slightly flattened shape, not the circles. These are potato pearls without distinguishable lines:

    LEARNED something new again.....had never heard of EITHER 'potato or cerclé pearls before either!!!!

    The guy without the pink hat was really rockin' those pearls. i'm not sure the pink turban is Komo's color.

    You gals are funny , but having a laugh at my expense ....as long as it's in good fun............ No Worries !:playful:

    In truth I'm not as handsome as the guy on the right ....who looks like my fiancee's brother.....but I look more like the guy on the left.......sans turban !
