Featured I need help identifying an old pewter brooch

    This unusually shaped pewter brooch was in my grandmothers' belongings. The c-clasp shows that it was made at the early 20th century, some of the rhinestones look older than the rest, overall it looks "very handmade". There is no hallmark on it.     I suspect your pin is made of pot metal, not pewter. Pot metal was very common in the 1930s and 40s and that is what this looks like to me. The thickness of the metal is typical, it probably is also somewhat soft, easily bent, that is why it is so thick.

    It looks like the rhinestones are blackened, that is what happens when the foil backing degrades. It could be age but most likely dampness caused it. Rhinestones should never, ever get wet!

    It's a nice Art Deco piece, but with the blackened rhinestones it doesn't have much value :(
