    Herbert Dickinson was apprenticed to William Hegley in 1811 and turned over to Thomas Potts in the Gunmakers Company in 1812. He established his own business in 1823 in Chamber Street, and moved in 1824 to High Street, Whitechapel. In 1846 he was recorded at Gloucester Street. From 1849 to 1857 he was at 2 Little Prescott Street. From 1858 to 1861 he was at 3 Little Prescott Street and 31 Frith Street, Soho. At the end of 1861 the Prescott Street premises were closed and the firm opened at 2 Uni...[EXTRACT ENDS]

    Sorry, this is a little late, but.......

    This was originally a Brown Bess musket, probably an India pattern, which came out in ca.1797. Many were converted from the original flintlock system to the percussion ignition system in the early 1830's. This one of those muskets. They would eventually be replaced by the Brunswick rifle and the later Enfield rifled musket.

    The original musket was adopted in ca,1797, being an easier to produce version of the earlier Land pattern musket, which was required for the French Revolutionary War, shortly to become the Napoleonic War. If the musket was produced in the same numbers as the India pattern bayonet, then some three million were produced from 1797-1817.
