I should recognize him, but where is this bronze dude from?

He's seated and playing a bowed instrument. The artistry and casting both look a little crude. Not entirely sure if he's bronze or brass. The face isn't Indian. The bowed instrument looks Pacific Islander but the face looks funny. The necklace could either be Kenyan or East Asian somewhere. You get the idea.

Looks like an Akan/Ashanti gold weight, mounted on a wooden base.

Small-ish. About 3 inches minus the wood base.

It looks like Dhokra ware to me, so the tribal northeast of India. India has a range of bowed string instruments. I can't think of any traditional Pacific string instruments though, let alone bowed ones.

Oho. Sure looks like him. He's going to be a Christmas present for a friend. The friend is a drummer in my church worship team (among other things) and he looks like Animal when he really gets going. He and the Dhokra fiddle player ought to get along.

Oddly I just saw a program on Khmer metalsmithing the other night, but it was all steel. The two didn't connect.
