I think someone mentioned a site where I can find my edition of a book?

    Hi all
I thought I remember one of the book people here mentioned a site where you can plug in info and it brings up all copies of that specific book for reference.

I would appreciate if you could post the site here so I can do my research.

I have only found the book I have on Amazon for a crazy price so... I would like to compare and see what others are selling it for. Thanks in advance.
    The book is
    The American Family Cookbook
    Lily Wallace
    C 1950
    Hardback, no dust jacket

Here is the link to amazon
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004BAXK8...olid=33QTC7TKUKMN6&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Thanks Debora, I think it was a different site that showed many book seller places.

When I google the book title I see one on ebay for $15. And there's one on that amazon link for $9.33. Doesn't seem to be uncommon.

    There's also abebooks.com

    LOL Komo,

This stuff drives me mad. The only site thus far I found that had the identical cover was Amazon. The other sellers that say they have the book on amazon don't show the covers and after nosing around a bit I see there are many different covers. I am so confused. I think it is time for a nap.
The ones on ebay don't have the same cover either. Oy.

abebooks.com has a good search engine, but only looks at dealers listing on abe.

bookfinder.com has very good search options, and looks at a variety of sites, including ebay.

addall.com and vialibri.net are similar to bookfinder.

In each case you will get more specific results if you opt for more fields/search options, so you can enter publisher, date of publication, and binding/format.

That image on amazon wasn't uploaded by the person trying to sell a "new" copy for $900. Most likely whoever uploaded that image had sold theirs long ago. It's doubtful that either copy that's up for sale now will even have that specific cover. Amazon is pretty much the worst place to go to figure out pricing on older books.

If yours looks like the one on Amazon, that looks like a later printing (just based on the style of the cover). On the copyright page, there may be an indication of the date it was actually printed (as opposed to the original copyright). Books Inc. was a low cost publisher, and probably issued a variety of versions of the book to boost sales. At any rate, the possibility that your particular version seems uncommon would not add significant value if it is a later printing anyway.

Do not pay any attention to astronomical Amazon prices. No one in the book business knows why Amazon lets such prices stand (and highlights them in the buy box!) while they are always pressuring the rest of us to lower prices for a "better buyer experience".

Look at completed/sold listings on ebay to get a real idea of what a book may be worth. For cook books, it is also a good idea to do searches using cookbook as one word, and as cook book.

Thank you 2many. I think it was bookfinder that I was thinking of.
The only date on my book is 1950.

Kronos, really, I had no idea that was true about Amazon.

I will keep searching till I can make heads or tails of what I have.
    Thanks to all.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

If you are seeking to identify editions of a book, not asking prices, you could also try Worldcat (dot org). That is based on library catalogs. There are libraries in the U.S. with historical cookbook collections, so you might be able to find something.

It does sound like you are looking for asking prices, too, so maybe this won't help.

I go to bookfinder.com because they pull from all other sites in one place.
