Seller is asking $ 1200.00 for it. Thanks.

I know about Andersonville, but what does the seller say this item is?

I know nothing about these but the patina looks VERY even overall.

I"d be a little leery. Lots of fakes of Civil War relics have been made over the years.

When you go to towns where there are Civil War battle sites, the shops are full of replicas - money, buttons, rifles, you name it. I would find out the history of where the seller got it from.

Same tag. See this before you buy:

✅ SOLVED - Does anybody think this fine eBay treasure is the real deal? | TreasureNet The Original Treasure Hunting Website

"That so-called "Andersonville Prison" ID-tag is laughably fake, for several reasons.
Primarily, there is no historical record of Andersonville ever issuing such an item.
Secondly, note that the letters are stamped individually, one-at-a-time, instead of the letter-dies being mounted on a bar and being struck all at once.
(See an example of a bar-stamped marking on the civil war artillery Gunner's Level in the photo below.)
Also, the "stretched-letter X" meant to represent the Confederate Army's battleflag is obviously hooey.
The many asterisk/starburst stampings scattered all over the item are kinda needlessly decorative for a prison ID-tag, don'tcha think?
I could continue, but I'm sure that's enough, for everybody except the Ebay seller of this completely fake relic."

Hi certainly no expert but I must wonder why the CS would make such an attractive tag for a union prisoner. If he escaped..he would through it away. If he didn't get out and was one of the 4500..why have a tag.
Reminds me of many fake slave tags.
Last point , same seller had it for sale Sept. 30th for 4500.
Please wait for others but I have a feeling the power ball would offer a better chance

Would be nice if you could report a listing for fraud but it doesn't work that way

I'd have thrown $10 at it on the off chance but no more. Makes me wonder if the seller realizes it's a $3 bill.

There are also these fakes coming out of China as well. I saw a special on tv awhile back that showed the villages where they make this fake stuff.
