Hello! Can you help me identify this maker's mark? Is it old or new? The green patina looks somewhat phony to me. It's a copper plate or shallow bowl 12" in diameter, heavy and seems to be handmade. Thanks for your help!

Don't know if this helps at all but I think the mark (if you rotate the picture 90 degrees) - is two figures holding hands - the figure on the right with a headress?

You're right. I had a hard time taking the picture with my phone and getting a pic under 1mb that I could upload. Maybe this one will work better.

I won't polish it, but my thought was to use it as a base to a water feature on my back patio. But not if it's a nice item. If it's nice, I'll find something else.

Does anyone have any other resources where I could try and find who made this item? Are there other websites, or books of makers marks for items like this?

One possibility to consider is that the mark you see was made with two metal stamps, 1 and 0, by a mom and pop souvenir dealer in a village market in India. They learned that browsers were more likely to buy things with markings of some kind, so they had son no. 6 put random pictograms on their products, using their two metal stamps. The family name of this dealer is most likely Patel.

I don't think this is Indian, I think it's artisan work, possibly South Western.

I've never ever seen an Indian artefact with that kind of stylised figure mark and it's most untypical of their symbology. More likely to use some kind of script. Devanagari, or something.

That blue is deliberate and I've seen it on other art copper pieces. If you look at the marks, the blue has been carefully let in to them.

No polish - and do a LOT more research before you use it for anything that would damage it. I'd not put anything that nice anywhere near water, anyhow.

Thanks Ownedbybear, I thought it might be Mexican or Southwestern, it seems to have that type of style. I'll do more research online and try to learn more about the maker.

And I won't use it as a base for a water feature on my deck! Now I'll need to find something for that use. :)
