Hello there. Recently acquired this beautiful dresser ( already painted grey... :( ) and would like to know more about it - especially the beautiful drawer handles that I have just started cleaning up. I found a stamp number on the reverse of the handle itself - RD 109210
It's from a Blue Plaque house here in Whitehaven, Cumbria: previous home of Captain Daniel Brocklebank - the founder of the White Star Shipping Line that became Cunard. Attached pics of dresser, handle and stamp.
Any help appreciated - Thank you.

I would call it a buffet rather than a dresser. I’d say that it’s Eastlake style and date it to the 1890s to just after the turn of the 20th Century. Probably walnut under the paint. And yes, those are beautiful drawer pulls.

Thank you - and that is just the word I needed - Buffet! The top left drawer is felt-lined presumably for cutlery, and the bottom right cupboard has a small hole in the bottom and shows a large-ish circle in the wood grain - It reminded me that I THINK I have seen somewhere a rotating glass shelf for wine decanters in a similar unit - but I might have imagined that! Thanks again: I'll look into the Eastlake / walnut idea.

Wow, that's very similar - I have a sneaky suspicion there was previously another "tier" on the top of mine that has been replaced by a simple panel. Thank you for the photo - appreciated!

I was just thinking that! Nevertheless, it doesn't detract from the buffet.

Thank you for your comment - it's nice to know that I wasn't too far off the mark, but especially to know other people like my buffet too - the photos don't do it justice, and it just FEELS right in my little flat! :shame:

The Rd number 109210 on the pull shown indicates 1888:

That is amazing - Thank you so much. I hoped that someone out there would know what the number meant and how to trace it - give yourself a gold star and a pat on the back from me. I love my Buffet even more now!
