Sterling setting. At first glance it looks almost black, but under the light it looks like an olive drab green. Then if you turn it in the light, you can see brown and other, lighter shades of green.

It is hard to capture in pics. I really wish I could get a gem tester as I know diddly about stones.

    Chrysoberyl possibly?

Obsidian or smokey quartz? Whatever is backing it might account for the green.

Definitely not obsidian or smoky quartz ;)

    PS
I have seen a rainbow obsidian, but your last pic looks too green?

If it weren't for the green I'd be thinking old 70s mood ring.(LOL)

I see what looks like scratches on the surface, but also what I would call "fold" marks on glass.

Thanks for the responses. I'll have to look up some of the suggestions as I'm not well versed on stones.

I thought glass at first, but there's a depth to this that made me wonder if it was stone (as well as the shifting colors thing).

I didn't know you could blow up images like that. I'm seeing glass too. Interesting color-change though. It could be some from of alexandrite glass. The color change in that is usually blue to light purple though.

I don't know what else to call it. You know when glass edges melt together and leave a line? There must be an official name.

I believe the term is "straw marks."Dunno how official it is though.

Ah, okay, I was able to google straw marks and see what that meant.
