Identification help!!

Hey all! Found this in my grandpa's basement, Im thinking either bird bath or possibly ash try... Any ideas???

I'd say definitely the latter - a smoking stand. Maybe 1940's ish? I'm not an expert on dating these kinds of things though. I like the design.

 

Smoking stand for sure. I've seen plenty of them, most no longer used for tobacco. They're generally loaded with screws, keys, etc. There's a wooden one in my house that I found thankfully partially disassembled; it's now a small table.

Bet it had a large round brown glass ashtray. I think I have a large green one around here somewhere.
