    Good day.

I need information on this baby chair which converts into a rocker.

It has a stamp on the rear edge of the seat. Some characters are very faint and others not legible at all. Somebody probably did some work on this baby chair previously which left some sanding marks over the stamp making what’s left of it difficult to read. I placed asterisks in the places I couldn’t read. There seem to be four words, centered, below each other – of 7,7,5 and 4 characters respectively. This might not be an accurate character count.

    1. *****AL
    Could this be **ROYAL?

    2. LET**RS or LET**NG

    3. R/F/TAL*O/D
    Could this be PAT NO?

    4. 1883 or 1886

I know this looks cryptic, but I will appreciate it if a knowledgeable person can fill in the gaps and recognize the stamp. I assume it is the cabinet maker’s or factory’s stamp. Any other relevant info will be welcome.

    Thank you.

    Johan.

Love this Victorian oak convertible high chair - rocker! I haven't any real help on stamp after trying a variety of editing options on it. You say there are 4 lines. I see only 3 lines, but then my eyesight is certainly not the best.

The 1st line may??? consist of 9 letters of 1 word or 2 separate words. The first letter on the far left may be a "M"?? I think I can see a "YAL" at the right end of the line for ROYAL as you do.

The 2nd line may consists of at least 13 letters. i think the last 4 letters are "LAND."

The 3rd line may consists of 4 or 6 letters and numbers?? I can only make out an "R" in the middle.

Like I said no real help! Sorry. I have seen several on the web very similar to yours. I looked at their descriptions hoping a stamp like yours was noted. Didn't see a stamp mentioned.

I need to revise my above reply on the 2nd and 3rd lines. After inverting the colors, I think I see

2nd line: still 13 or more letters, but ending with "PAT. NO"

3rd line: I now see the date like you do. I agree it is 1800 something. To me it could be 1880 or 1886. Am including an inverted version of the stamp pic.
