Featured Identify Carved Lady Head Chair

    Circa 1900 Empire revival parlor chair. Probably part of a set originally. Looks like birch. Someone has refinished this and did it no favors. Think this was originally stained darker to mimic mahogany and match the heads.

    Thank you for the information! I agree on the finish, it’s unfortunate but maybe it is not an extremely valuable chair either way! I paid 100 because I thought it was unique

    I'd leave bad enough alone, but give it funky new upholstery. I've seen old victorian chairs sell for good money with a modern "ethnic" fabric on the seat cushion. If you're reselling that is. If not, leave alone or add what you want. If the poor thing still has horsehair or excelsior stuffing it might be best to redo it anyway; that stuff is a dust collector and really needs to go.
