    Hi All,

Does anyone know what this tool is? Is it an awl of some sort? Sewing needle for Paul Bunyan? The metal needle part measures 12" and the handle is 5". I don't know if you can tell from the pictures but the metal rod part is round but the tip is almost flat. The wooden handle is also flat on one side.

A clue might be my mother was a seamstress and once owned a sewing factory, but I found it in the kitchen knife drawer. Maybe she used it for an ice pick!

    Thanks for any ideas!

Mine doesn't have any markings but that's a perfect match. I guess my mom WAS using it for an ice pick! Thanks so much!

    Hi,
I used a very similar one when reupholstering "Victorian" furniture. I used it to make the tufted backs on chairs and sofas. It was old when I bought it in the 1960s.

I had to have a little dental surgery awhile ago, I think my dentist used one about this size to sew my gum.
