I know it is hard to tell in photos, but what would your best guess be on these candlestick holders. They are very glossy. I'm guessing they are brass with a "bronze" finish? Don't let hte green fool you, that is old candle wax. A magnent does not stick if that helps. Per the note from the previous owner on the bottom, she dates them around c. 1832 and made in Sweden.

    I'd call them lacquered brass.

Not sure what the previous owner was trying to write: 150 years old but then 1982 or 1932? Maybe that they were bought in 1982?

I know the previous owner was born in 1897. Her parents were from Sweden. In your opinion, in which period do you think these were made?

I have an opinion, but it’s probably best for you to wait for a more knowledgeable forum member to respond to you.

Someone hoodwinked grandma (or they were just clueless) saying they were 150 years old when she made the trade for those cups or whatever that label says.

I'm no expert, but seeing as though all pieces are screwed together, I would think they're mass production, industrial-era pieces.

I'd like to hear what @the blacksmith has to say.

I think they meant it was 150 yrs old in 1982. Which means the person who traded them for the cups said they dated from 1832.

My feeling is that they are not as old as they are perhaps purported to be. I do not think that they are so old. As for the material, well patinated brass would be my guess.
The above said, the only thing that makes me wonder is the thread, that does appear to be quite old, but 150 years, probably not. The castings at the base of the candle holder are what first makes me think that they are relatively modern. I would expect them to be of a better quality if they were as old as they are thought to be.
All the above said, I am certainly not expert, but this is just my feeling.

Sorry, one more question with regard to age. Would they qualify as "antique" or so recent they are "vintage"?
