Grandma gave me this interesting nightstand, I would love to know more about it if anyone knows anything.... including what style it would be called and maybe how old it is?

It measures 44 inches tall, 23 inches wide, and 16 inches deep.... The top can be separated from the bottom. It has 4 drawers, one is really small. No marks or identification of any kind. A velvet feeling material inside the drawers.

    Thank you for any information!

Welcome, Bellatrixx! 44 inches seems much too tall for a "nightstand." Where do the parts separate?

If I had to guess I would say its style is "something French" but I am not an expert so wait for others to weigh in.

Really too bad about the damage on that leg.

Thanks for your reply! I was thinking it might be some type of French style too... And yes bummer about the damage. It is actually in pretty rough condition unfortunately. I guess it would be a bit too tall for a nightstand... It can separate right at the bottom near where the legs connect with the stand. The top just lifts right off.

So only 3 of the drawers lift off, leaving the lowest one on the legs?

EDIT! Now I see the last picture shows the lower piece without the top.

The damage doesn't look too bad - nothing a little wood filler and a new coat of paint won't fix. On some pieces we are going to paint, I'll even use "BONDO" (auto body filler) to fill in imperfections. Just make sure all joints are tight first or even that will re-crack.

Jewelry stand? I thought jewelry stands of this type were a pretty contemporary invention, but... I dunno.

It looks like a jewelry bureau to me. If the top lifts off maybe it was to be hinged in it life. AND velvet is a sure sign it is for jewelry. The adornments are reminiscent of Edwardian era and styling is French

Or lingerie dresser? Could we see back? And drawer sides?

I know right? Haha It is so interesting and I have never seen anything like it before. It would make a great jewelry stand.

Is that partial board I see at the top inside?

Yes it is particle board....So it wouldn't be older then the 1950s, right?

Probably newer - like I said jewelry stands like this were popular since the 80s, give or take. I don't know for sure.

The construction looks later. Is the velvet lining black, thin and synthetic looking?

Definitely synthetic and it is thin.... Has a grey color to it. I guess I should call it a jewelry stand and not a nightstand now haha

Thinking new-ish French vintage lingerie cab, ca. 1980-2000. Those Renaissance Revival corner figures and drawer swags are unusually well executed for such a late date. Just wondering....are they plastic?
