    Hello all,

I'm trying to identify a Pendleton blanket, shawl, or robe for my mom, who received it about a decade ago. It came from a small children's museum with an American Indian exhibit and was given to her when they were closing down. They couldn't tell her a thing about it—where it came from, who donated it, how long it had been there, nothing. (It was a mess!)

I've done some research into it and suspect it's from the 1970s, but honestly, I'm not sure. Please help! I'm still new to all of this and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed!

(By the way, thank you for all the helpful forum posts! I've really enjoyed diving into this world that's brand new to me. I even checked out a copy of Chasing Rainbows from my local library based on everyone's recommendation! It's been an absolutely wonderful read.)

Here's what I've got so far. I think it's from between 1972 and... probably not too many years later, maybe 1980? I saw on another site that Pendleton started using blends of fabrics instead of pure wool in 1972, so that's my start date. (This shawl's 82% wool, 18% cotton.) I don't have a specific end-date. I don't think it's from too much later, maybe the early 1980s at the latest? I'm not sure. This is based on some info I found about Pendleton clothes labels from the 70s and 80s, but I simply don't know if they updated their blanket labels at the same time.

Current dimensions are about 58 x 36 inches. Sadly, I'm pretty sure someone must've shrank it in the wash at some point.

I don't even know where to begin looking for the name of the design or anything like that...

I've included some photos. I hope they help!

Thanks for reading all this! My mom's been curious to know a little more about this blanket for a long time now, so I hope I can help her solve a bit of the mystery.

Agreed this looks later than your estimated dates, based on the way the content tag looks.

Have you tried asking Pendleton? Can't hurt!

It's a really fun design and Pendleton stuff is fantastic so good on mom for picking this up!

Debora, that trademark registration's good information, thank you!

That leads me to another question though... According to this post, Pendleton was using the Beaver State label from 1915 through at least 1972... Did they stop using the term for a while, then pick it up again in the 1990s? Am I missing something?

Mirana, that's a good idea! I'll go ahead and send them an email.

I'll also see what I can dig up on 1990s labels.

Thank you both for the replies!

Can't be earlier than 1971 when care tags were made mandatory by the US government.
