    Hi,
I've come across this head and the ears remind me of an Indian Buddha, however its described as Chinese. It stands 30cm tall.

Just wondering whether to buy it, do you think it's old?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as always.

    Many thanks

Anne-Marie, do you have a full frontal view of him, so we can see the proportions? He is beautiful, even when seen from this angle.
I think Southern Asia or thereabouts is more likely than China, but I would have to see him to his best advantage.;)
He reminds me of some Gandhara Buddhas, so Afghanistan-Pakistan.
Whatever the origin, it is a replica. Technically speaking it is a head, rather than a bust.

The Buddha always has extended earlobes, to show he was of princely origin. Nepali nobility wore heavy earrings. When he discarded his princely privileges, he also discarded his jewellery, but the lobes were already stretched and stayed that way

In China (and I think also in Japan) long earlobes are also seen as a sign of longevity, someone who will live a long life; if also "fleshy and meaty" they show that a person is of a good disposition and calm, and not prone to anger.
    :)

They make replicas of different styles, so it could well be Indonesian made, based on an Indian original.
