Picked up this little hand fan at my favorite thrift for a Dollar today.
Google tells me it is Buffalo vellum and horn?
I'm sure if anyone knows about this it's going to be @Any Jewelry

    Perfect.
This time google is right.;) It was made the same way as wayang kulit puppets, and probably in a workshop that also makes puppets.
Made in Central Java, my guess is 1970s or so. It is towards the lower end of the quality scale for these fans.:sorry:
I have an old one, and a few brisé fans made in the same way.

These 6 fans, better quality than yours and most of them brisé, were sold on Catawiki for € 57 (US$ 67) recently:

Yes, there is. He is called Satria Ladak. He is a generic knight "of refined character", who can be used in any of the plays. The wing on his back suggests a heavenly origin, like an angel.

I have him as a Wayang Golek puppet, he is actually my favourite puppet, the oldie on the left:

The little guy next to him is an extremely rare puppet, a Wayang Gambyong, who is the Shamanic narrator of a play. It took me many years to find one, and he is also antique. He has his own glass case now.
