When was this mark used and do the 5 or the other G stand for something, a year of manufacture or such?

What is the mark on? The 5 could certainly be a "design" or "inventory" number, but probably only meaningful to the maker.

The extra G and ES appear to be in the same orientation to each other as the G in GUST and the ES in ESKILSTUNA, so I would think a mis-strike in the marking process.

Here is some info on the factory. The mention a "4" patent/registration number so I wonder if "5" would be a later trademark maybe?

Looks like the translated version didn't copy but I just right clicked and did google translate for English.

Gense was established in 1856 when the journeyman Gustaf Eriksson after receiving his master craftsman started a forge . At that time, valves and tiled ovens were manufactured. Since the Axel Eriksson son of 1885 took over the business, the production of new silver and electrogalvanically silvered brass was transferred. In 1897 GENSE was registered with the Patent and Registration Office with order number 4, which means that AB Gense is Sweden's oldest still existing registered limited company.

Products such as coffee and tea dishes, bread baskets, tiles, candlesticks and tableware were also given space in the production. Over the decades, the company grew and after the turn of the century Gense had over one hundred workers. In 1935, stainless steel was used for cutlery and serving items.
