Information about painting?

Hello Everyone,

I don't know much about art but I like this picture and think it is funny. I can't figure out anything about it though. It's in pretty bad shape. It's also very strange that the frame covered up the artists signature. Any thoughts on:

1. The culture represented by the two subjects? Their clothes are unique.

2. Is the guy a tailor? It looks like he is trying to thread a needle.

3. Possible time period when painted?

4. Artist? (probably impossible considering the damage)

5. Anything else?

The picture just makes me smile when I see it and I would enjoy any other information. It is probably about 20" x 15" and looks like an oil on canvas.

Hi not sure if you will find the artist. The sticker indicates that your painting came from a company that sold decoration art for pepoles homes back in the day. I would say yours is late 40/early 50s.

 

The clothes seem unique now, but were pretty generic in times past. Many of these scenes were made in Germany.
