I have an inkwell. I don't know anything about inkwells. Can someone help me with anything about this inkwell? Value? Origin? Anything

    Hi, Dsmcub, and welcome!

I've taken the liberty of resizing your photo so that others can see it better. Hope that's okay!

I have several inkwells myself, but none at all like this one! Does it have a top?
Are there any markings on it anywhere? Oh - and how tall is it?

It appears there was a tip to it at one point. Looks like it would screw on. I don't have the top to it. It is approx 3 inches tall without measuring it. I don't see any other markings

Well, from what I can see, it looks like Indian brass work that has some black enamel in the recesses. Although decorative, such items are not very high-priced.

I've been collecting antique writing equipment for nearly 20 years, I've never seen an inkwell that looks like this!

Are you sure that's what it is?

It is the bottom part of an enameled brass rose water sprinkler, probably from India or Pakistan. You would fill it with rose water and then screw the top back on. The spout at the top has small holes.
Sprinkling guests with rose water is like welcoming them with incense.
    Here is a complete one:

    That would make some sense

Jolly good idea not to be filling that thing with ink, then. I daresay the parishioners wouldn't like it.
