I saw this online today and thought some folks might find it an interesting read.

I know most of the folks who are lucky enough to find a piece of old Jet jewelry would be loathe to let go of it. My guess is the price of the old pieces is likely to go up, as usually happens when something old becomes fashionable once again. People clamor for vintage, or in this case antique, pieces.

wondering if this might be a bit of old jet in an upcoming auction, very hard to tell of course, but 1 in a number of about 200 watched listings

That little lot looks very interesting to me also.

Do they have any type of description on the 3 spoons?

I miss going to the auction. Sigh!! :(:(

The fob is for a pocket watch, it looks like gold on sterling silver.

If you are allowed to inspect the items before the sale, take a sheet of white printing paper with you and drag the suspected Jet over the paper, it should leave a brown mark.

You're right about that. I gave it a run through photoshop for you.

I can find similar but not exact, which ups the chances of it being carved and not faux molded. Although even those pieces sell well. Give it a search and see what you think.

    Agree.:)
The souvenir spoons look promising, especially the enameled ones, which seem to have no chips. I'm with Davey, the watch fob is likely gold on silver. The purse may not be silver and is missing the centre ball dangle. But all in all a nice little lot with selling potential.:)

this one made me chuckle, you can actually see the thought process
"this bag of very cheap bangles will never sell, so we'll put 2 crap interesting looking ones in to get a bit of interest"

Here's some Raw Jet for you.

I found it walking my dog on the beach over several weeks, it's 75 miles south of Whitby.
After storms and high tides, things don't stay where they originate.

    5 kilos (just over 11lbs)

US 25 Cents, €2 and £2 for size comparison.

My dads watch for the big pieces.

The hand holding a bunch of flowers is emblematic of friendship. Looks very likely to be jet to me.

Something tells me that pile would add very nicely to the retirement fund. If this fad of new jet jewelry takes off you might want to sell the lot. If nothing else you can feed Buzz for at least a couple of weeks on the profits. ;):happy::smuggrin:
