I didn't read the entire article. Just skimmed.
    Interesting.
Confirms what I have often suspected. I always wondered how the Indian Nations could turn out SO much jewelry that fills so many gift stores all over the US. Particularly if they claim it is hand made. There is just too much available in gift stores.

Links worked for me; lots of interesting detail in the article, on specific cases; but the concept - that there are a lot of fakers, many not being prosecuted, is not new.
    But an interesting article nonetheless.

I knew there were fakes, but didn't know the scale. Just one raid of these two importers collected "350,000 pieces of jewelry seized during the raid exceeded $35 million". All this fake stuff suppresses the prices the authentic makers are able to charge. And as those of us following antiques of any kind know, once there are a lot of fakes around interest usually contracts since customers don't trust the market anymore.

Yes Jeff Drum, your points are well taken. The scale of this particular NA fakery is huge. I see the same problem ongoing with "Ming's" jewelry and I no longer want to own any. It is to the point that "Ming's" is crudely scratched into nice pieces!
