I was wondering if I could get this in my car. The legs are blocky and come down to a square at the bottom. It was well built and I didn't see any join lines.

Anyone have any ideas on what little you can see of this chair? I left the shop and I wasn't really intending to post the image but I'm curious about the curved lines at the top edges.

Chip & Dale ? Real Chipster pieces are rare as brontosaurus choppers-a true Chip made at Thos Chippendale's workshop's kinda like a flake off the true grail. A contemporary period piece made from Thomas's pattern book by an esteemed maker would be more feasible an nothing to sneeze at.

I understand how valuable the real pieces are. I just don't know enough about furniture to know if this is worth, say over $100.

Pics not sufficient to evaluate well. Does show some promise with the edge beading but styling is not the most elegant I have seen.

I noticed that book of patterns that was published, and today sells usually for over $5000 a copy. I wonder if this rounded pattern is in it.

I did end up getting the chair.

Let me know if there's any specific types of pictures that would be more helpful.

I'd like a few closeups of those Junior Mints.

New pics are very helpful. 20th century chair in the style-of. Not really a reproduction as it doesn't really replicate a Chippendale chair. It is a basic chair with Chippendale styling to the back. Would guess mid 20th century or later. I hope you did not pay anywhere near $100.00.

I agree with Brad, this does not look period, having neither the construction details nor wear patterns that would be expected in a 250 year old chair.

I will disagree about one minor point, which is that this style of straight leg chippendale can indeed be found in period construction. I suspect Brad is bothered by the legs, and although the best chippendale style chairs coming out of the American urban centers had carved cabriole legs, there were also a lot being produced with chamfered square legs similar to these. (For example see section Chippendale Straight-Leg Chair in Ormsbee).

The trick is to find an authentic period example, because a whole lot of reproductions like the OP piece were done in later years (obviously much easier to factory make than carved legs).

And by the way, it is easy to find reproductions of the Chippendale book for very cheap money, I have one and well worth the money for someone interested in recognizing and collecting antique furniture.

Is it likely that this was originally part of a dining room set? I don’t have a sense of scale from the photos.
