Hi all. I picked up this 8x2 box mostly because the finish appealed to me. I thought maybe gilded bronze at first, but its very lightweight so Im thinking more newish. Its very pretty nonetheless,so ill use it. Any hints on gently cleaning it as the top is quite dirty . Any input is always appreciated.

    Hi,
I would spray it with foaming bubble bath room cleaner and rinse it well. The foam will get into the smaller areas and rinse off. No brushes needed which might loosen the finish.

Style appears to be archaic Chinese but think pretty new.

I'm with Brad, Chinese Archaic style, but not antique. It was not made as a fake, but because Chinese love historic styles.
    Gilt brass maybe?
I would have bought it, I love boxes and I love the Chinese archaic style.:)

(AJ, you have no room for ANYTHING else! Or, DO you live in a museum?)

Both.:D The museum is more like a glorified pawn shop though.
I always find room for a box. Maybe on top of another box, but I always find room.:playful: And you can put 'stuff' in a box.:)

I would have bought it too, think of use for it later. Clean it? Heck no, that’s all part of the patina!

The pics don't capture the lovely reddish gold patina very well. Its what caught my eye initially. Thanks guys,I figured newish but wanted to get some input. Itll come in very handy to hold more crap I don't need!

A coat of paste wax, buffed, does wonders for the appearance of old brass and copper things.

I also have a penchant for boxes. You can even put boxes inside boxes ;)
