IMG_0644.jpeg IMG_0643.jpeg IMG_0642.jpeg IMG_0646.jpeg IMG_0645.jpeg Hello anyone know about this plate please? It’s quite interesting with the stapled on handle and the repair is interesting too. There is nothing on the bottom base. So didn’t include a photo of it.

Very interesting and unique thing. Personally I have never seen something like it (but that doesn’t say/mean very much) But yes, a photo of the bottom definitely (will help the knowledgeable members date it) The way the handle looks attached makes me think someone ‘married’ plate and handle. Cool repair also.

Neat thanks for tips ☺️ Location New Zealand. Got in Antique shop (we call it a Op shop in NZ) about 8 years ago. It is 12.5cm across. Bottom base is 7.5cm across. Bottom base lip is 7mm.

    Ditto. Dutch Frisian.
Looks like the bonbon dish was made in Makkum, the silver handle is by Fennema en Zoon (and Son) in Bolsward. The style of the hanlde is Frisian.
Both Makkum and Bolsward are towns in Friesland, northern Netherlands.

The lion is a Dutch assay mark. This particular one dates from 1814-1953 and it is for a fineness of .833 silver.

LOL, all I could think of was ZN might mean "zinn" which might mean pewter! It's rather funny when I'm so off the mark. I had a lovely Makkum polychrome plate that I sold. Shoulda kept it.

    Could be worse...
My first thought, before taking a better look at the rest of the mark, and before noticing the lion mark, was that the pic of the mark could be upside down, and that ZN was NZ (for New Zealand) :bag::rolleyes:
