He looks like a Franciscan friar. It is as if he was made after a real person, amazing.
Other than that I can't help, sorry.

I was thinking Friar Tuck as well . Doesn't quite have the hair, but maybe a later rendition.

I like the fact that the face is realistic, but yet not so well rendered like a factory piece.

    Nice one, Chesaroo!

thanks buddy, never really been a fan of studio pottery, but have been looking into it recently for things to look out for, really like the janet leach stuff

Awhile back I had two figures that remind me of yours. They were pottery men (I think monk like) with brown glazed robes and unglazed faces, sort of mud-men like. Anyway, as nearly as I can remember, I decided mine were Italian. I no longer have them or even photos of them and it's been long enough that I don't have a clue how I decided that but thought it might be a direction for you to look.

Oh wait, I did find a couple terrible photos and now I know how I got Italian LOL! You'll note it says "Italy" faintly on the inside of the base. I think I found some similar ones online somewhere too.

The Italian monks were mass produced in the 50s-70s. Maybe later too. They always had a comical note.
This one looks more like a one-off. It is much nicer than the italian ones imo.

do reckon the mark is stamped, or would it be done by hand as well ?

could it be 2 S's, one foreward one backward
