I liked my little walrus so much, I decided to get his big brother. Much bigger brother. Unfortunately he's also missing his tusks like his lil'brother.

11 inches from nose to tail. 7 inches high. Pretty sure also serpentine stone like the little guy. Weighs in at a hefty 6 pounds even. Compared to the little guy who is 2.5 ounces - a behemoth.

Did my best searching http://www.katilvik.com/content/bio/index.php for the disc number but came up empty. The name ( if it is the artist's name) doesn't come up either. Can anyone... @komokwa , @Mark London - perhaps - help with a positive ID and perhaps timeframe on this one?

    Thanks for having a look!

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Looks like it was rather nasty of someone to chop off his tusks, doesn't it??

I think these photos pretty much are not very good - will try to get a few better ones in the daylight tomorrow.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

e7-716 is a carver called Sagiatuk.......& if you say it in a guttural Inuktitut way.... but that's a long shot seeing how far off the number is...and not enuf to ' seal ' the deal !!! :bucktooth:

I have a stone walrus carving by a different artist. I shall make a thread post it and will appreciate some help with mine too! <3

I would suggest that this might be an early sculpture by Kakulu Saggiaktuk (1940- ) from Cape Dorset. Althought better known as a printmaker, she has also produced a number of sculptures. Her disc number is E7-930 which is not terribly dissimilar to the E7-530 in the photos.

Thank you so much, Mark. Do you think it's possible someone other than the artist inscribed the disc number and just simply got it wrong?

Everyone makes mistakes once in a while. It happens.
