This seems modern era, possibly tourist-y, but I liked it. I'm cleaning what I think is smoke from the frame. The glass is really thick compared to what I'm used to ! It's 1/8" !

I am suspecting the metalwork might be a traditional design instantly recognizable to someone here. I think it might be of Persian ancestry but I don't know.

Is this sort of thing typically presented on fabric ?

This design on the frame looks to be an applied as a veneer.
    The black fabric feels synthetic.
Whatever is it, when the sun hit it I thought it was very pretty. 20170613_181804.jpg 20170613_181859.jpg 20170613_181706.jpg 20170613_181730.jpg 20170613_181741.jpg 20170613_182141.jpg 20170613_183306.jpg

Persian seems like a good guess; Persia usually refers to items made in present-day Iran, but similar items are made in other parts of the Middle East and in India.
I've not seen things like this done as filigree work, or mounted on fabric.

I'd guess you want to look up Khatam and Sadeli wares (at least in relation to the frame, and going back to the boxes shown by 808 raver)

Is that decoration like stencil-cut foil applied to the cloth?

For all the apparent work that went into it, the craftsmanship looks fairly coarse.

I was trying to post earlier when there were glitches and the site became unaccessible for me. But only me, or so downforeveryoneorjustme said. Looks like I can get back on. I thought I'd done something wrong and been banned !
