I was going to be very strong and not post anything tonight just to prove to myself that I don't have an addiction to this site but then I found this little guy.
Does anyone know anything about the history or perhaps a date?
There is something stamped into the metal but I can't make it out. I'll see if I can get a better pic in the light of day. The brooch is approx an inch across. 20201026_201000.jpg 20201026_201038.jpg 20201026_201110.jpg

He's a Cornish piskie by the look of him. I suspect that says 9 ct front or 9 ct filled.

Thanks @Ownedbybear. He looks quite old? Also not very heavy.

I'd think he's early 20th at the latest. He may be hollow.

Beat me to it! I often see these come up and nobody ever knows what they are. I have a brass toasting fork and a door knocker of him. I assume they were souvenirs sold in the Cathedral gift shop or other local shops?

Yes, it is the souvenir to buy in Lincoln. They also have silver spoons with the imp, etc etc.
I have seen him in person.:playful:

I am told a trip to Lincoln is not complete without an ornament of the imp and a postcard of the glory hole!

Lordy, do not attempt to Google search "glory hole". Yikes.

The “Lincoln” bit of the name is important if you don’t want to be led astray, though I think the confusion is part of the joy for the natives :playful:

Thanks everyone for your responses. I now know a little more about this little guy. Still can't work out what's stamped into the metal though. I think i need to get myself a powerful magnifying glass!!!

You need to get yourself several good jeweler loupes. I say several because you are always hunting them when you want to look at something & you need to have a couple to stash in your purse as well as the glove compartment of your car because you just never know when you will need to examine something up close. ;):D:D

Thanks so much. From my research today I see there are all sorts of different shapes, sizes and magnifications. I've ordered a daily basic one to start me off
