I have this large set of stemware, rather plain, that has what looks like a needle etch. If it is I can't imagine how it was done, by machine? I'm not hopeful for an ID and frankly, only bought the set for the tiny cordials. But any info is greatly appreciated. To quote myself, I may have burned more brain cells than these deserve. The goblet is 6 1/4". TY!!

Are the lines raised or indented? Needle Etching involves coating the surface with a resist to prevent the acid fumes from reaching the glass and then removing the resist with a needle to allow the acid to reach the glass and eat some away to some the glass.

I would say that the lines are indented. It feels like someone scratched the glass with a pin and gouged out the pattern. Gouged is probably the wrong word, but a pointy sharp object scratched out the pattern. It seems like this type of etching would take forever to do.

As I understand it these patterns were made with a commercially available pantograph using cogs to move the needle and object around to scratch through the resist.

Thanks for that explanation! The machine would make the process much easier.
