    Hi,

I'm a total novice at reading Japanese hallmarks. Haven't a clue to be honest, and so I surf Google to try to identify any hallmarks I come across. I think this particular one might be Kusube but unsure of the period.

Consequently, your help would be very much appreciated in trying to date this vase.

    Many thanks as always

Can you post a picture of the item the mark is on, please?

Hi, yes, I found the info on that site, but I'm unsure if the hallmark is the same. However looking at the picture you've attached, the design looks very similar.
Many thanks for your help, very much appreciated.

Mark is definitely not the same, and decoration style very common, so no reason to attribute to that maker.

Has the mark been flipped or something, it does look a bit like Kusube, but it's kind of mirror written as shown in the pic.

I’m quite sure you know Japanese writing much better than I do, mine has mostly been scrutinizing menus and street signs wondering what I’m eating or where I’m going. But I do think that dark blue decoration with hand decoration was pretty common and made by lots of makers? Am I wrong?

    Ebay the source: Kusube.jpg
An exceptionally pretty vase which stands 5 and 1/4 inches tall made by the celebrated Potter Sennosuke Kusube (1859_1941).

I have emailed images to Kevin Page award winning dealer in oriental art, who has verified by text that the vase is a genuine Kusube
