    Hi,
Does this look like a spittoon? It is 5" x 6 3/4", has the beehive/shield mark on the bottom, no other marks. There are 4 little flowers, 1 on each corner, don't know if that would be considered a mark.
    Any thoughts appreciated.
    thanks for looking

It's quite impressive for a spittoon. To receive the most high spit of his royal spittiness.

The mouth looks relatively narrow. Would require some very accurate spitting, I think.

It is beautiful, love the colour combination.
Not really wishing to be disgusting, just a technical observation: It would slide down the sides into the centre.:sorry:

    Feeling a bit queasy now.:hurting:

It is actually much smaller overall than any spittoon I have ever seen, so maybe we could start looking at it as a vase?

I was thinking a ladies table-top model.... But it is small, and vase is so much nicer.
So vase it is. Feeling much better now.

The shape could be based on a money pouch?

thank for that description AJ, lol.
This would have been for a lady, from what I see the size is okay:)
It is a pretty thing, but now that I have spittoon in my head that is all I see when I look at it.
it is the same on all four sides

    Hi,
Looks like a sitting room spittoon. A hand held one is smaller. Ladies chewing tobacco was a very common thing. Also there was a great deal of TB back then.

Has anybody seen a manufactures catalog or ad for a ladies spittoon or a retailers ad for one? I suspect the name is first cousin to a buttermilk goblet ie a creative name for an antique dealer to sell goods that were not moving.
