Is this alein Kokeshi doll

Well, it's an alien duck. It has webbed feet!

 

It's Japanese, but beyond that you've got me.

 

It's a KAPPA, a creature found in Japanese folklore.

 

Kokeshi dolls come in two types, traditional, which is what most people associate with the term, and creative.

The creative type of kokeshi developed after World War II, and is just what it sounds like...the artist is free to make a kokeshi doll in whatever form his or her imagination takes. They still conform to the same principal of a turned wood body and head, with no limbs, but after that, pretty much anything goes.

This is a creative kokeshi, and I would agree, appears to represent a kappa, kind of reptilian water creature, which has a number of different names and incarnations, depending on the region of Japan it comes from.

I love kokeshi dolls but most don't have much value. Im sure that depends somewhat on the maker...
