Might be a quick answer here. Is this brass box a snuff box? Also any very approximate idea of age range? No markings. Thanks for taking a look.

Yes, it is.:) I'd say first half of the 19th century, but I could be wrong.

It's way too big for snuff. Other tobacco maybe, but snuff boxes were generally quite small.

I agree that it is a 19th C. tobacco tin or box.

I agree, too big. and the tole would dry out snuff and tobbaco. but I could imagine that it's for small medication flasks - insulin, heroine, cocaine etc.

There are a lot of those boxes used to contain and protect home material for first aid and other similar purposes, I rememeber those boxes from the 1900 when I was a child in my grand parents home.
For tobacco it's too big, steel part inside doesn't match with something not dry, too recent in shape and not sealed to protect from moisture, on dutch or german tobacco boxes there was a large superposition used as a seal.

Similar boxes but more complicated were made by apprentices too, this one is a little bit too simple for that provenance in my opinion, for the boxes, I'm a compulsive collector of any type or any use when well made or decorative…:bag:

Very nice collection. My parents also had some, my mother loved folk art.
If you ever need Dutch inscriptions translated, just ask.:)

Half of my family is living in Holland but they are young and cannot read a majority of the incriptions on those boxes, then thanks a lot for your help !

Dutch has changed, but I am a bit more used to older styles of Dutch than most Dutch people. Just an old-fashioned gal, I guess.;)

Be careful, as they are a lot of fakes, and especially with the more angular ones which are german, you can find them on ebay for information, they are a lot for sale.

They are also still being made in the Netherlands, as genuine replicas, not intended as fakes. What some unscrupulous sellers sell them as may be a different story.:(
