My mom found this lamp at a thrift store and wanted to identify it. She is a very nice retired school teacher, and tried making an account on here after I told her about this forum. A moderator banned her immediately because her account shared an IP address with my own and they felt that I was a scammer making multiple accounts. So I am posting this question.

My mother would like to know if this modeline lamp is a repro or if it could be an original. Unfortunately she only got the one picture IMG_20230101_131109.jpg

$275 ?!? I guess so for MCM but that offends me ! Its a great look nonetheless and sure looks good from here.

Sure looks like an authentic MCM lamp. I can't say whether it was made by the Modeline company though. Extremely unlikely it is a modern reproduction of any kind, IMO. One quick check for that would be to look at the plug. If it looks older, evidence the lamp is vintage. I don't even know if they are doing repro's of this kind of thing. (Of course if the plug looks newer, possibly it was rewired.)

The price seems a tad on the high side --but depends where you live. I would expect it to be in pretty much flawless condition, shade perfect, for that price. But I could see it selling for close to that where I live. It is a cool lamp.

As far as your problems getting your mom an account, maybe contact a moderator and ask for help. Our mods (kindly!!) volunteer their time. I know we have had scammers left and right, so there may be some automatic refusal if something raises a red flag. If you think your mom would like joining this group (seems like she has good taste after all...) I'd try that route.

To clarify, my mother and I have separate IP addresses normally. But while I was visiting her once my phone connected to her wifi automatically while I was there so we showed as the same IP address briefly for the duration of my visit

Looks right as rain to me. I know prices have been stiff in the past for Danish modern stuff, but as bosko69 said, make them an offer if it's something your mom really likes.

$275 is a fair price for that vintage MCM lamp, by today's price standards, although not sure what part of what state you are. Prices vary some depending upon location.

True Antidiem-Brad's Thrift Store would be offering it for $2.50 and it might sit there all year.I need more 'Twilight Zone' time-warp shops in my life.
PS-All kudos to Brad,a true gentleman,it's just his region's 'price point'.

It's definitely "of the period" as it were, but whodunnit i haven't a clue. I certainly wouldn't pay that money for it, but if it's a must-have and she wants to live with it...? I can see a decorator paying that, which is my guess as to why it's priced that high.

God-we used to trip over these at the 2nd hand stores,'Jetson's Furniture'.I'd check on Ebay, print out some 'sold ones'.He'll say -'yeah but the percentage, the shipping, etc',and split the diff.

Looks right to be true MCM. Would need to see the switch to know if it is modeline.

LOL!..... Actually, it might be as high as $15.00 and sell pretty quickly once the right person came in. I was that right person for $15.00 the last Modeline I handled. Sold locally for $600.00 to another right person ;) Probably could get more on-line. The $275.00 doesn't seem too bad if Modeline.

Brad-With those mid-western prices,I think you'll prob be remaining 'semi-retired' for the duration-hey,it's money for nuthin & yr tiques fer free (almost !). Buddy you are livin' in a Midwestern time warp, pastures of plenty.
Who could give that honey hole up ?
