    The subject is the ancient belief that the pelican is the most self-sacrificing of all parents, feeding its young with blood from its own breast.

    I found 2 others, both listed on eBay as Meissen, one saying c1860. Another site said that having an incised number next to the crossed swords (looks like F60 on this) is a good indicator.

    These 2 have had opinions on Meissen:

    It may be ornithologically vague, but the action it is engaged in says its the Pelican in its Piety.

    Thanks, ... yes mine has the F 60 etched into the base and a stamp 52

    I did a search on ebay after you mentioned the two other ones but I don't see them ...
    what search term did u use ?

    excuse my ignorance , I'm a newbie :(

    That's one of the ones I found. As I recall, the other was a Google thumbnail that said eBay, but the link was dead.
