Just seen a topic of a bowl described as Hopi pottery. Could remember that I had something similar but never knew what it was. It was buried away so had to dig it out.

Could this be native American Hopi pottery or is it maybe something else like Australian Aboriginal or so ? Did a bit research and I think that it is a Hopi wedding vase but need second opinion on this.

Its not in the best condition anymore but it has some age to it. Want to know what the origins are of this piece, what is was used for and maybe a rough date.
Its hand painted and it shows a face with a nose, ears and mouth with some other symbols.

Looks like a alien to me :)

    Any info is welcome

It is Shipibo from Amazonian Peru. Possibly 1960's.
The Shipibo are currently known as the Shipibo-Conibo people after the Conibo joined forces with their Shipibo neighbours. The designs are also found on their traditional clothing.
The double spouts are seen a lot in Peruvian pottery, as are portrait vases.

So it is Native American, but not Native North American.

Pleasure, wow, how those prices have soared. I'm sure yours was a good investment at the time.
I have a few Shipibo pieces I bought for a song as a teen, just loved the style.

I'm also surprised about the prices! Can remember that I bought it in a charity shop. I came there every week in search for a treasure for months and months. This piece always use to sit on the cash register and it always catch my eye but thought it sat there for decoration. One day I asked the lady if the piece was for sell and she answered: Yes, we've put it there so people could see it and buy it. She turned it over and it had a price tag on it which I could not resist. Let me say it like this, didn't pay more for it than I would for a bottle of coke :)

That's maybe why I never thought much of it. It use to sit there for months and months and nobody bought it.

These pieces are not widely known. The story of how I acquired mine is a bit similar to yours, except my pieces were in a carpet showroom when my parents needed a new carpet. I recognized the style and asked about them. The owner said he just came across them one day, liked them, but then didn't know what to do with them so he put them in his showroom. I said I'd be happy to take them of his hands, he named a price close to yours, and the rest is history.
