is this one Royal Satsuma? and of good quality?

    Unfortunately it is a Chinese imitation of Satsuma of the late 20th c or newer.

    wow! how can you tell? It looked good to my untrained eye. ANy tips for future reference?

    First of all, the figures in the scene wear Chinese costume. The enamels and gilding are not right. The vase is white porcelain coated in a cream coloured glaze (as you can see on the bottom) while Japanese satsuma is earthenware with a fine crackle glaze. There are many other elements which are not right, too. Still it is a nice, decorative vase.
