Is this silver plated? Confusing.

    This is the mark of Magnus Aase
    The words mean Norwegian Made.
    If you see the paragraph above the Silver Standard at the time was 830 in Norway.
    Maybe someone knows more about it though, so wait for others.

    Your sugar bowl is silverplate and as already said, 'Norsk Arbeide' means 'Norwegian Made' or 'Norwegian Work', the 'MA' mark was originally used by Magnus Aase, but was subsequently used by Th. Olsens Eftf after Aase and his brother bought into Olsens around 1903-04 - have seen this mark accompanied by plate marks dating to the 1930s-40s...

    Here is a similar sugar bowl with the same mark at the Dalane Folk Museum in Egersund, Norway - description notes it as 'Nysølv'('New silver' - silverplated nickel silver) or 'Sølvplett' (Silverplate):

    Though the marks pic is fuzzy, this piece bears the same mark along with the Norway Goldsmiths Assoc. 'gram weight' quality mark for silverplate, introduced in 1931 and indicating at least 60 gram plating on white metal base:

    Ok, I know that...that was a bad deal for me, I purchase them as 830 silver..... bad....:rage::rage::rage:

    Well, if it can't be returned, then perhaps just chalk it up as a learning experience, and if it's any consolation, most Scandinavian silverplate is of good quality - it's pretty, a classic Norwegian design...
