Is this some type of Lantern?

    Just hoping to get an idea as to what this is.
    11 1/2" tall x 3" diameter, The main body is brass. top cap is glass
    with a little peanut bulb inside.
    I haven't tried to open it up but assume it takes batteries?
    There are no markings of any kind on it.
